Husband dies trying to save wife killed in Kent mobile home fire

A husband and wife both died Monday after their mobile home caught fire. The husband tried to rescue his wife but was overcome by the flames.

KENT, Wash. — A man died trying to rescue his wife from their burning home Monday morning, officials with Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority said.

The fire started at 8:30 a.m. in their mobile home in the 800 block of West Valley Hwy. S. in Kent. The couple lived in the home with a roommate.

The roommate was leaving for work when he turned around and saw smoke coming from the back of the mobile home and called 911, officials said.

The roommate then called the husband, who was returning home and just a minute away. The roommate said the woman was still inside.

The husband arrived before firefighters and ran into the home to try and rescue his wife, but neither of them survived, officials said.

Firefighters arrived and quickly stopped the fire from spreading to a nearby mobile home. As crews continued to work, they were able to get inside and found the man and woman deceased, officials said.

A chaplain was called out to the scene, and fire investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze.

The identities of the individuals involved have not been released.
