SEATTLE -- King County leaders are expected to announce a new partnership Thursday aimed at adding more affordable housing units along the current light rail corridor. It would include thousands of units located near train stops over the next six years.
The move is expected to help Seattle and King County in its work to reduce homelessness, which continues to plague the region as a growing epidemic.
The effort will also help people currently battling the pricey rental and home-buying marketplace in Western Washington. The median home value in Seattle is more than $557,000, according to Zillow. The real estate application company also reports home values in Seattle increasing more than 16 percent over the past year. Zillow predicts home values will rise more than 7 percent within the next year.
