Christmas week is bringing king tides to the Puget Sound this year.
King tides, which are extremely high tides, are a result of normal gravitational pull between the moon and Earth being amplified by other astronomical events.
Similar to spring tides, king tides occur when the Earth, moon, and sun are aligned.
Due to the landscape of the Pacific Northwest coastal and Puget Sound regions, the times and dates at which king tides take place depends on the location.
