SEATTLE - By Tuesday evening, AvaCunnington seemed more interested in playtime than a Presidential visit. However, the 11-month-old was front and center as President Obama stepped off Air Force One at Boeing Field just after 3 p.m.
I wish she were a little bit older so she could understand how important today was and what a special moment she had, said Ava's mother, Alyssa.
We were fortunate enough to get invited by someone we know who is connected with the Obama administration, explained Jake Cunnington, Ava's dad.TheCunnington family was among a groupofpeople allowed special accessto meet the Commander-in-Chief Tuesday afternoon. President Obama greeted the crowd, andheld baby Ava.
He was saying how well behaved she was, and I said, 'she is ready for a nap.' He said,so am I, recalled Alyssa.
After the photos and handshakes, the President met with Governor Jay Inslee for a briefing on the wildfires still burning in Washington.Gov. Insleetold reporters by phone Tuesdaythat the President pledged his help. The administration is going to grant emergency assistance through FEMA, said Gov. Inslee.
The President spent about four hours in Seattle, and attended two fundraisers.
It was a quick trip, but it theCunnington family said it was a very meaningful onefor them.
It is going to be great for her to look back on, saidJake as he held Ava.
Ava's mother said, It is a priceless moment.
