Families who rent space in a Kirkland mobile home park are scrambling to find a new place to live.
The property was sold and they say they have few options with just weeks until they're forced out.
“She was expecting to live here permanently, without having to move,” said Jennyfer Flores, whose aunt bought a home at Firwood Lane Mobile Home Park last year and sunk about $50,000 into renovations.
“She did the whole back porch on the other side, she remodeled the bathroom and the kitchen, and she just upgraded the whole house,” said Flores.
Then she found out the property where she kept her house had been sold.
The new owner, PSW Homes, gave the 30 or so homeowners a year to move out, as required by law. The developer also offered financial assistance through a state program, which provides money to help people move their structures, or put a down payment on a new one. But with a month until that one year deadline, many people haven't found a new place to relocate.
“It can be moved, it's just like you don't know where,” said Flores. She and many others at Firwood say there aren’t any east side mobile home parks with open space.
“I don't know what I'm going to do now,” said Maria Demayoga, who is in an even tougher position. Her house is too old to be moved.
