'It all happened so fast': Kirkland police looking for driver who hit, injured boy in crosswalk

Blake Barclay, 12, was walking in a crosswalk with his sister when a driver clipped the back of his foot. He suffered five fractures and is recovering in a boot.

KIRKLAND, Wash. — The father of a 12-year-old Kirkland boy wants the public’s help in tracking down the driver, who he says ran over his son's foot and took off.

On Sunday, Sept. 29, Blake Barclay and his 14-year-old sister were on a Sunday afternoon walk – he was after candy.

“We got a Butterfinger – we split the Butterfinger,” Blake Barclay said.

The two did what they were supposed to – they pressed the button and carefully crossed 108th Avenue Northeast near 62nd Street. Just before getting to the center island, Barclay says he was hit by the car.

“It clipped the back of my foot and – it all happened so fast and it really scared me,” Barclay said. “It took a few seconds to get over my shock and then I started screaming."

The driver that hit him did stop, but a few minutes later, she sped off without leaving any info.

“I was like staring at my foot like, 'What’s going on? I didn’t know what was happening',” Blake Barclay said.

The boy suffered five fractures and is recovering in a boot.

Blake's dad, David Barclay, wants to find that woman – and so do Kirkland police. A Kirkland Police Department spokesperson told KING 5 that officers have canvassed the area looking for witnesses and surveillance footage but have come up empty-handed.

“We’ve gone on next door, talked to the police, we’re trying to check cameras all those kinds of things. We’d like to find out who did it,” dad David Barclay said.

They hope someone saw something, maybe even captured the car on camera, or perhaps the driver will see this and come forward.

“We’re furious. This was in our neighborhood and in a very well-marked crosswalk, and they did all the right things. They pressed the button, waited for the light, and looked at the cars. They assumed the car would stop,” David Barclay said.

Again, this was Sunday, Sept. 29, around 2:30 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to call the Kirkland Police Department.
