All lanes of northbound I-5 have reopened after a landslide blocked the highway for hours between Mount Vernon and Bellingham.
The slide happened around 8:30 Saturday morning. The roadway was closed for about eight hours.
Washington State Patrol and WSDOT say there were trees down, mud in the road and a damaged guardrail. No one was hurt, and no vehicles were damaged.
WSP says the slide was 60 feet wide, and seven feet deep. Rocks and debris continued to roll down the hill for a long period of time.
A WSDOT engineer was brought out to assess the damage.
It took so long to reopen the roadway in part because once the debris was cleared, crews had to make sure another slide wouldn't happen, according to WSP Trooper Axtman.
A woman who was caught in the backups of the landslide this morning sent KING 5 video of the scene, where people were helping to clear away some debris.
