Local police officers support girl's career dreams

Detective Carrie McNally with Seattle police set up a meeting with Caitlyn after seeing her picture on the news.
Officers from Seattle police, King County Sheriff's Office, and Black-Diamond police visited Caitlyn, who wants to be a police officer when she grows up.

It all started with a first day of school picture. Christina Garcia sent in a picture of her daughter Caitlyn, which ended up on TV.

In the photo, Caitlyn, who goes by Caity, is holding board that says she wants to be a police officer when she grows up. Garcia said that Caity has wanted to be one for three years.

When Detective Carrie McNally with the Seattle Police Department saw the picture on the news, she invited Caity to meet other police officers.

"This was the most amazing gesture and she truly went above and beyond on making an unforgettable memory for my daughter," Garcia wrote in an email.

McNally visited Caity with officers from three different agencies: SPD Detective Pamela St. John, Black-Diamond Police Chief Jamey Kiblinger, King County Sheriff's Captain Michelle Bennett.

"My colleagues have all been in law enforcement for many years and we feel that we each have a responsibility to connect with young girls and boys at every stage of their development," McNally wrote in email.

They brought Caity a custom shirt, hats, a badge, handcuffs and more.

"Caity and girls and boys like her will be the future of law enforcement," wrote McNally.

Garcia said she wanted to bring attention to the service these women perform and how they came together for Caity.

"Detective McNally and these women are truly an example of not only the service of our police departments but of a woman, working moms, and encouragement," she wrote.
