BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. -- Washington State's Department of Transportation is warning drivers to expect major delays starting Monday near the span that connects Kitsap County with Bainbridge Island and the Seattle ferry run.
On Monday, WSDOT will reduce traffic on the Agate Pass Bridge to just one lane so crews can begin cleaning and perform maintenance on the bridge deck. About 22,000 drivers use the bridge on a daily basis.
The bridge will be closed between 8:45 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays, and 7:45 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekends until February 28th. WSDOT says crews will be hand cleaning and inspecting the span, which has stood since 1950. According to WSDOT, in the interest of safety, the work is best done during daytime hours.
The last time it cleaned the bridge was 1990.
Kitsap County residents use to the bridge to drive onto Bainbridge Island and reach the ferry, which connects to Downtown Seattle.
