Man sentenced to 31 years for killing wife at Bellevue tavern

Dylan Jennings, now 37, shot and killed his estranged wife while she was at work in 2021 because he found out she was involved with another man, documents state.

BELLEVUE, Wash. — A man who killed his wife inside a Bellevue bar in 2021 was sentenced on Friday to more than 31 years in prison.

The sentencing of Dylan Scott Jennings, 37, comes after he changed his initial plea and pleaded guilty to first-degree domestic violence murder on Aug. 28.

Jennings was sentenced to 380 months in prison, which includes an additional 60 months (five years) for a firearm enhancement, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

On July 5, 2021, Jennings shot and killed his estranged wife, 26-year-old Anna “Maxx” Lopez, inside Sam’s Tavern in Bellevue. Lopez was finishing work that evening at the tavern when Jennings walked into the bar and opened fire. Lopez died at the scene.

Jennings had stolen the gun he used to kill Lopez from his brother, documents state.

Jennings confessed to investigators that he killed Lopez because she was allegedly involved with someone else. Investigators also noted that Jennings showed no remorse and that he described his actions as “taking care of business,” the prosecuting attorney’s office said.

Lopez’s parents, family members and friends attended the sentencing on Sept. 20.

Jennings’ sentencing of 320 months (26.6 years) is the maximum of the standard sentence range for first-degree murder. Combined with the firearm enhancement, Jennings will spend 31.6 years in custody.
