Man arrested in connection to fatal shooting at party in Seattle's Pioneer Square

The shooting happened just after 9 p.m. at a hotel near Occidental Avenue and King Street.

SEATTLE — A man was shot and killed at a party in Seattle's Pioneer Square Thursday night.

According to the Seattle Police Department, the shooting happened around 9 p.m. at a hotel near Occidental Avenue and King Street.

Hotel staff tried to perform lifesaving measures on the victim before emergency services arrived but the man in his 30s died at the scene. A second victim, identified as a 43-year-old man, was found shortly after at Occidental Avenue South and Jackson Street and taken to the hospital in stable condition. He was injured by a tile that shattered when shots were fired.

A man in his 30s turned himself in on Friday at the SPD west precinct. He was arrested on misdemeanor gun charges related to the shooting and booked into King County Jail.

"I am really sad, first of all, that somebody is not here today because of it," said Tija Petrovich, a Pioneer Square resident. "I live a block from the event, and we have an outdoor deck and so we heard shots, like a pop, and a pop pop pop pop, and I thought that is not fireworks."

Petrovich and others soon found out about the shooting and a life lost.

"I think last night's incident was a very targeted event," said Chris Woodward with Alliance for Pioneer Square, a nonprofit organization working in the neighborhood. "One thing I think we are really concerned about is just gun violence overall in the city. This isn't a unique event."

"Deciding to pull a gun. Where are we? That is not Seattle, that is not Washington, that is not Pioneer Square specific. That is a national conversation that we all need to be involved in," said Petrovich.

Wade Public Relations, a spokesperson for the event, said in a statement, "We are extremely saddened by last night's tragic incident. Our team is deeply committed to the safety and well-being of our community members. We are cooperating with local law enforcement but cannot comment further on an open investigation. Tomorrow's mural celebration is being cancelled. Our thoughts are with those impacted during this very difficult time."
