Mary Kay Letourneau’s husband, Vili Fualaau, appeared in court on DUI charges. The court entered a not guilty plea for Fualaau.
Fualaau was arrested just before midnight on February 2 following a three-car collision at the intersection of SW 156th Street and 1st Avenue S, according to a King County Sheriff’s deputy's incident report.
Fualaau’s Mercury Mountaineer SUV was one of the three cars found at the scene.
The reporting deputy made contact with Fualaau and noticed a “dazed drunk-like expression on his face, eyes watery bloodshot and glassy, speech slow, thick and slurred with the odor of intoxicants coming from his person."
Fualaau admitted to drinking at the Black Zia Cantina in Burien, approximately six blocks from the intersection.
The report says Fualaau initially consented to voluntary field sobriety tests. The deputy began facilitating the Walk and Turn Test; which Fualaau "was unable to stand heel-to-toe, shuffling his feet, raising his arms to balance."
During the test, Mary Kay Letourneau drove up to the scene. The deputy facilitating the tests witnessed Letourneau yelling at Fualaau to stop cooperating while she contacted their lawyer. From then on, he declined to participate in the voluntary tests.
Based on Fualaau's “drunk-like appearance and demeanor,” the deputy found probable cause to arrest him for DUI.
Fualaau could face up to 364 days in jail and a $5,000 fine.
Fualaau filed for divorce from Letourneau in 2017 but later withdrew it, according to TMZ.
