Rail issue delays Sound Transit light rail trains between Lynnwood and Seattle

The light rail 1 Line trains are operating on one track between the University of Washington and Northgate stations.

SEATTLE โ€” Passengers taking Sound Transit Link light rail between Lynnwood and Seattle faced delays Saturday due to a "rail issue" on the 1 Line, Sound Transit announced on its website.

Due to this, all 1 Line trains are sharing one track from the University of Washington Station to Northgate Station.

A rail issue in the northbound tunnel between Roosevelt Station and Northgate was found and cannot be fixed until daily service is done, according to David Jackson, public information officer for Sound Transit.

Jackson said trains are sharing the single southbound track between Northgate and the University of Washington, and arriving every 30 minutes; normally, trains run every 10 minutes.

Service should return to normal on Sunday, Jackson said.

"They put a lot of money into [this] and they're making people stay out here and waste time," said Leonard Brinkman, a frequent rider.

The timing of the delays came as Sounders and Kraken fans were heading to games at Lumen Field and Climate Pledge Arena.

"It's just easier, we just park here, take the [monorail] down and it's nice, quick and easy," Said Kraken fan Corinne Lund, who said she didn't mind the extra wait time.

None of the stations that opened in September as part of the light rail extension to Lynnwood were impacted by Saturdays delayed.

The 1 Line connects Angle Lake Station in SeaTac to Lynnwood.
