Brennon Fisher and sister Skylar got what they wanted for Christmas almost two weeks early.
“I don’t want to have anything else,” said 11-year-old Skylar Fisher, moments after her father surprised the siblings during Tuesday’s lunch at Salish Middle School in Lacey.
Early Tuesday morning, her father, Army Sgt. Major Brett Fisher, got home from a six-month deployment to Korea.
Since he arrived a couple of days earlier than expected, wife Shannon Fisher suggested he surprise the kids with pizza at lunch.
“A special delivery,” said Brett Fisher.
His near 20-year Army career has resulted in five deployments including two trips to Iraq and another two to Afghanistan. He’s been in South Korea since June.
Fisher works as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal specialist. He described it as Army’s bomb squad.
Past deployments have meant missed soccer games, birthdays, and Christmases.
Not this year.
“It’s been a long time coming,” said Brett Fisher.
The family’s heading to Hawaii for Christmas and New Year’s Day.
He’s set to return to Korea for another six months January 5.
Fisher hopes to return in time to see his oldest daughter Brianna graduate from North Thurston High School.
