A coach at Olympia's Capital High School was dismissed this week over an incident involving students at a summer basketball camp.

Doug Galloway's contract was not renewed, according to the Olympia School District, because of a lack of supervision and failure to ensure student safety.

According to the Olympian newspaper, the incident involved forced sexual contact between students while the team was at the Western Washington University Basketball Camp in June.

District officials said Galloway was at a university sponsored event when the incident happened.

In a letter to parents, the district described the incident as inappropriate student/athlete behavior.

Out of the respect for the privacy of the students involved, I am not going to go into any further details about the incident or the disciplinary action taken, Capital Principal Chris Woods wrote in the letter.

Galloway has been coach of the Capital High School boys basketball team since 2001. He graduated from Capital High School in 1984.
