TACOMA, Wash. — One juvenile was shot near Tacoma's Lincoln High School Monday afternoon.
According to the Tacoma Police Department, the shooting occurred in the early afternoon in the 600 block of South 37th Street, which is about a block away from the school.
Tacoma Public Schools said in a statement that the incident "most likely involved Lincoln students but occurred off campus." The school was placed on lockdown, and then a modified lockdown was implemented shortly after.
The victim who was shot was taken to a local hospital, where they are in stable condition.
A suspect was identified and was taken into custody without incident. They were taken to Remann Hall and booked on an assault charge.
According to Tacoma police, the suspect and victim had an ongoing dispute. When they saw each other, a physical fight started before the victim was shot. It is unclear what the dispute was about.
Their exact ages are currently unknown.
