Marysville Pilchuck briefly locks down after online threat day after anniversary of mass shooting

On Oct. 24, 2014, a Marysville Pilchuck freshman shot five of his classmates before taking his own life.

MARYSVILLE, Wash. — Just a day after the 10th anniversary of a deadly shooting on campus, Marysville Pilchuck High School was put on lockdown after an online threat Friday.

The Marysville Police Department (MPD) said an active shooter was reported "via an internet chat to a Veterans Crisis Line originating from an IP address in California."

MPD said Marysville Pilchuck was placed on lockdown "as a precautionary measure." Police first shared information about a large police response and a lockdown on social media just after 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Police responded to the school, and a release from just after noon Friday said "there is no indication of any immediate danger to students or staff."

Authorities are conducting a search of the school "out of an abundance of caution."

A subsequent release just before 12:45 p.m. Friday indicated that the police response at the school was completed and the lockdown was lifted.

On Oct. 24, 2014, Marysville Pilchuck freshman Jaylen Fryberg shot four of his classmates in the school cafeteria, wounding a fifth, before taking his own life.

Zoe Galasso, 14, was killed in the cafeteria at the time of the shooting, while Shaylee Chuckulnaskit, 14, Gia Soriano, 14, and Andrew Fryberg, 15, passed away days later. Nate Hatch survived after being shot in the jaw.

In coordination with families, students and community members, the Marysville School District placed a new memorial Thursday at the school in remembrance of the students who were killed in the shooting.
