Organizers of one of the world’s biggest gaming festivals, PAX West, are stepping up security this weekend's event at the Washington State Convention Center.
In a written statement, PAX said it is responding to the aftermath of a shooting at a gaming event in Jacksonville, Florida that killed three people, including the gunman.
“We have responded with the addition of increased private security, law enforcement, and other personnel, each of whom are on-site at all times during our events,” the statement said in part.
PAX said that it has worked with the Seattle Police Department to “…identify risks, assess them and develop our comprehensive security protocols for PAX West."
PAX - the Penny Arcade Expo -- started in Bellevue 14 years ago. It's exploded into a huge showcase for video and tabletop gaming, with galleries, exhibitions and competitions.
The event is expected to draw thousands of gamers over the four-day holiday weekend in downtown Seattle.
