TACOMA, Wash. — An English Bulldog found with multiple gunshot wounds was just one of 10 dogs received by The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County over three days in early March.
First, the Humane Society says a 4-month-old Labrador puppy was brought to the shelter Saturday with a deep laceration on its neck and a cut near the eye with an infection.
The organization says further examination determined the dog most likely had too tight of a collar, which caused the laceration.
Sunday, an English Bulldog arrived at the shelter with gunshot wounds to the face and shoulder. The dog was shot a total of three times, the organization said, with one bullet remaining lodged in its shoulder. No information was given as to how the dog ended up with the gunshot wounds.
In addition to severe pain from the wounds, the dog suffered broken teeth and a fractured jaw from the gunshots. The organization says a "potentially complicated" surgery could be necessary to remove the remaining bullet.
Not long after the Bulldog's arrival, eight 2-day-old puppies were brought in after being found by a community member abandoned in a box at a Bonney Lake park.
The puppies are now receiving "round-the-clock" feedings and warmth from an inclubator, the organization says.
Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County is asking for donations to help care for these 10 dogs as well as the many other animals it cares for. Donations can be made on the shelter's website at this link: www.thehumanesociety.org/10-dogs-need-you.
