PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — Pierce County sheriff's deputies seized over 50 animals from a property in Roy where suspected cruelty and illegal breeding was taking place.
The department said 35 dogs, 18 cats and a large horse were removed from the property, a Pierce County Sheriff's Department (PCSD) spokesperson said Monday. The suspect was known to officers from animal control due to previous offenses, the release said.
PCSD said it received a complaint in late November about the property and was just recently given the green light to execute a warrant. All of the animals found on the property will be treated by a local veterinarian.
Once the animals are healthy enough, custody will be transferred to the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County, PCSD said.
The department said it developed probable cause for charges of illegal breeding and animal cruelty that will be forwarded to a prosecutor for review.
