TACOMA, Wash. — The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County says it is "urgently seeking community support" for a kitten that was recently taken in with a severed leg.
To help clear space, Tacoma Humane is waiving all adoption fees from Sept. 6-8.
"We really need our community support to help create space in our shelter so we can continue our lifesaving operations for pets that really need us," said Lauren Green of the Tacoma Humane Society.
Morgan, who is eight weeks old, suffered a "traumatic injury" that severed his lower leg, exposing bone and flesh. Tacoma Humane says when Morgan was found, he also was covered in fleas, malnourished and dehydrated.
Tacoma Humane says Morgan is receiving around-the-clock care until he can get a full limb amputation, an operation that the organization says would allow him to walk normally without pain or infection.
The organization says it has over 650 animals in its facility and foster homes at the moment.
“Morgan is just one of the thousands of animals who rely on our shelter each year as their only lifeline, and a stark reminder of our urgent need for community support as our resources are stretched thin,” said Leslie Dalzell, chief executive officer at the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County in a release. “We need our community’s help to ensure Morgan receives the life-changing surgery he needs and to make room for more animals like him who have nowhere else to turn.”
