Tacoma Humane waives adoption fees after accepting 500 pets in 2 weeks

The organization says over 500 pets have come into its care just in the last two weeks.

TACOMA, Wash. — Anyone in Pierce County or the surrounding western Washington area who is looking to adopt a new pet got some good news Wednesday.

The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County announced that it is waiving adoption fees for adult dogs, adult cats and all critters through Sunday, June 16, due to kennel capacity.

The organization says some single kennels are now housing two or even three dogs, prompting the set up of temporary kennels. Over 500 pets have been taken in just in the last two weeks, the humane society said.

The fee-free adoption window will run from Wednesday through Sunday, and anyone looking to find a new pet can visit thehumanesociety.org/adopt.

For those unable to adopt, the humane society is also seeking those who wish to foster a dog. The organization says it is in "desperate need" of foster families and anyone looking for more information can visit thehumanesociety.org/get-involved/foster.

The organization says the summer months bring a higher number of lost pets to the shelter.
