SEATTLE — The Washington State Veterinarian is encouraging dog owners to be vigilant as 16 cases of the mystery respiratory illness in dogs have been reported in the state as of Dec. 1.
Sixteen atypical Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC) reports were submitted to the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA), according to a news release.
Of the 16 reports, two cases have met the criteria for Washington's determination of an atypical CIRDC case. Dogs in the two confirmed cases, in Snohomish and Clark counties, are recovering, according to WSDA.
“WSDA is still collecting more information on the other 14 reports to ensure we provide accurate information,” said Minden Buswell, Washington State field veterinarian.
The cases are reported throughout the state with seven cases in King County; three cases in Spokane County; two cases in Island County; and one case in each of Pierce, Skamania and Snohomish counties.
With atypical CIRDC, the state Department of Agriculture looks for a disease with common respiratory signs, but that does not have an identifiable cause of the disease.
