TACOMA, Wash. — The Tacoma Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that happened near Interstate 5 Monday night.
According to police, officers found a man with gunshot wounds on East 28th Street just before 8 p.m. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but the man died before he could be taken to a local hospital.
Tacoma police believe the shooting involved two people who knew each other and had been arguing. One person left a location, and the other person followed. They ended up on I-5 and pulled over to a parking lot where the shooting happened, according to Tacoma police spokesperson Det. William Muse.
Police are investigating the case as a homicide.
The suspected shooter worked with police, and he wasn't arrested, Muse said.
The Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney's Office will make a charging decision in the shooting.
Washington State Patrol and Puyallup Tribal Police responded to the scene as well.
According to Washington State Department of Transportation footage, an off-ramp near Portland Avenue was blocked off while officials investigated.
