Pregnant woman killed in I-90 crash near North Bend

A man and two children were also injured. Troopers say the car was being driven too fast for the snowy conditions.

A 27-year-old pregnant woman was killed in a single-car crash on snowy Interstate 90 near North Bend Sunday night. Her unborn child also did not survive.

The Washington State Patrol said a man, 31, and two children, 3 and 5, suffered minor injuries.

WSP says Alyssa Helfenstein of Moses Lake was in the 2005 Mitsubishi Galant when it went off the road and hit a guardrail before coming to a rest 20 feet down an embankment. Helfenstein died of her injuries.

WSP says the car was being driven too fast for the conditions. No drugs or alcohol were involved in the fatal crash.

Heavy snow closed both directions of I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass for over nine hours Sunday night into Monday morning. More intermittent closures were expected Monday.
