Record-breaking swimmer Diana Nyad brings her new adventure to the Northwest

Diana Nyad set a world record for her swim from Cuba to Florida. Her new adventure is on land — and she's inviting the Northwest to join her.

For 30 years, Diana Nyad never gave up on her dream to swim nonstop from Cuba to Florida. At the age of 64, Nyad fulfilled that dream and become the first person to swim 111 miles from Havana to Key West without the aid of a shark cage.

Now the record-setting athlete has launched a new adventure — on land.

Nyad is on a mission to get more people healthy and moving. Her annual EPIC EverWalk Event will stroll through the Pacific Northwest next month. This year's walk begins August 5 in White Rock, Canada, ending in Seattle on August 11 — that's 134 miles.

Walkers can join for part of the journey or the entire adventure.

Diana Nyad stopped by KING 5's Take 5 to share her vision for the event:
