Republican Congressman Dave Reichert of Washington’s 8th District tells KING 5 he will not endorse Donald Trump. However, he stopped short of saying he would not vote for him.
“I do not support the things that he’s been saying. I am disappointed in the way that he’s handled his opportunity to be a serious candidate,” Reichert said Wednesday.
“I think he’s been disrespectful. I think he’s been not particularly thoughtful of other people and different thoughts and ideas.”
When asked who he will vote for in November, he said: “I am not voting for Hillary Clinton.”
“Will you not vote for a presidential candidate?” asked KING 5 political reporter Natalie Brand.
“I am always going to vote, not going to throw away my vote,” Reichert said.
Reichert said he believes both candidates have “character flaws,” citing concerns about Clinton’s record as Secretary of State.
“I think both parties really are disappointed in the two moving forward, and as a country, we have to be very concerned about where we’re headed. We need to hold whoever is elected accountable and watch them very closely."
Representative Reichert, the former Sheriff of King County, is running for re-election against Democratic challenger Tony Ventrella. The 8th District includes eastern King County as well as parties of Pierce and Chelan counties.
