SEATTLE — An award is being offered for any information leading to an arrest in connection with a massive fire in Seattle's Beacon Hill neighborhood earlier this week.
The Arson Alarm Foundation is offering a $10,000 reward for any information, according to a statement released Saturday.
The 3-alarm fire broke out at a construction site in the 1000 block of Sturgis Ave. S. around 5:45 a.m. Thursday. The construction site is located just south of I-90 near the Rainier exit.
Investigators with the Seattle Fire Department determined the fire was intentionally set and said there have been multiple fires set in the Rainier and Beacon Hill area recently.
Seattle Fire Chief Harold Scoggins said on Thursday that the 3-alarm fire is one of 10 fires determined to be intentionally set in the last 30 days.
The uptick in fire activity is a "cause for concern," Scoggins said. The chief made a plea to the public to be vigilant and call 911 if people see anything, or anyone, suspicious in the area.
"If you see someone, please call 911, please try and get a good description," said Scoggins. He also recommended people living in the area to clean up any debris or trash that could be easily set on fire.
The damage from the Thursday morning's fire is estimated to be at approximately $5 million, according to Scoggins.
No one was injured.
The Arson Alarm Foundation urges anyone who may have information about the Beacon Hill fire or other arsons in the area to call the Arson Alarm Hotline at 800-55-ARSON (800-552-7766) or submit a tip on the Arson Alarm Foundation’s website at www.arsonalarm.com. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
