Notable road closures

Interstate 405 will fully close this weekend so crews can continue to work on widening the roadway in Renton and adding express toll lanes.

The closures will begin at 11 p.m. Friday and run until 4 a.m. on Monday, July 15, says the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). During that time, northbound I-405 will close from the North Southport Drive on-ramp to the off-ramp to 112th Avenue Southeast. Southbound I-405 will close from Coal Creek Parkway Southeast on-ramp to the off-ramp to Northeast 30th Street. There will be signed detour rates for people to navigate around the closures in both directions.

WSDOT crews will be demolishing the existing 112th Avenue Southeast bridge at Exit 9 and installing drainage crossings under both the north and southbound lanes of I-405.

That won't be the only eastside highway closure this weekend, as Interstate 90 will close all eastbound lanes from Seattle to Mercer Island at 10 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday morning. The southbound Interstate 5 off-ramp to eastbound I-90 and southbound Rainier Avenue South on-ramps to eastbound I-90 will close at 9 p.m. Friday as well. WSDOT says all lanes will be reopened by 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 13. The closures are for tunnel maintenance, per WSDOT.
