Schools in Blaine and Bremerton closed Friday, and Illahee Middle School in Federal Way will have additional security due to unspecified threats made.
Bremerton High School canceled classes due to a threat that was circulating on social media and possibly directed at the high school, according to Bremerton Police.
“Because safety is our top priority, we are evaluating the situation and canceling classes as a precaution,” a message posted on Bremerton High School's website said.
The threat, which contained the abbreviation "BHS," originated in New Mexico, police learned through investigation.
The suspect in that threat is already in custody, according to BremertonPolice.
All schools in Blaine School District closed Friday after the district received a threat to those on the Blaine Campus via email Thursday night, according to the district’s website.
The threat against Blaine Schools was specific to Friday, according to the district.
It is being investigated by Blaine Police.
Ferndale School District is also investigating two threats. The district posted on its Facebook page that one was likely part of a hoax disseminated to schools nationwide. The other is part of an active police investigation involving a Snapchat conversation. The district said Ferndale police identified and arrested the people responsible.
Illahee Middle School in Federal Way will have an increased security presence Friday after reports of a potential social media threat surfaced.
The middle school reported the threat to police Thursday morning, Principal Brianna Ward wrote in a letter to parents.
