Search to put faces to Vietnam veteran names

An online memorial is missing 20,000 photos.
Of the 58,000 Americans killed in Vietnam, only about 38,000 soldiers have photographs to go along with their names on the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial website.

BELFAIR, Wash. - Lt. Commander Robert Kerr's death was on the front page of the local paper in 1967.

Since he died in Vietnam, his family has been proud of his service.

Kerr fought in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.

His name is part of the national memorial in Washington, D.C., but until niece Susie Sanders got involved, his picture was not part of a growing online memorial.

Volunteer Janna Hoehn, who lives in Hawaii, used to live in Spokane and is trying to find photographs for the hundreds of Washington residents who died in Vietnam.

"It is so important for these young men to be honored," said Hoehn, "I want to make sure they are not forgotten."

Hoehn encourages family members to send her pictures of loved ones lost in Vietnam at neverforgotten2014@gmail.com

Sanders is glad she got involved.

"I think it's important to put faces to these names," said Sanders.

Hoehn started trying to find pictures for 38 veterans in Kitsap County in September.

Thanks to family members, friends and school librarians, she only needs to find photos of three more: Hobart Axsom, Jr., Jeffery C. Niles and Richard F. Salazar.
