Something's fishy: Seattle Aquarium warns visitors of online ticket scam

The aquarium said it is one of many organizations targeted by scammers nationwide.

SEATTLE — The Seattle Aquarium is warning customers about a scam offering major discounts on tickets.

Many Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA)-accredited institutions across the country have been the targets of scams advertising "fake tickets at extremely discounted prices," according to posts on the aquarium's website and social media accounts.

"This sale is not legitimate," the aquarium posted. "Tickets to the Seattle Aquarium are only available at the gate or through our website."

The Seattle Aquarium said the scammers are offering four tickets for just $9.95 — a fake, and fishy, deal.

Standard adult tickets typically cost nearly $40.

The fear is that consumers could hand over their bank or credit card information and never receive tickets.

It's unclear if anyone has fallen victim to the scam, but aquarium staff said they've received calls asking about the validity of the supposed deal.

The aquarium has directed customers to visit SeattleAquarium.org to ensure tickets are legitimate, and to contact the aquarium directly with any questions.
