BELLEVUE, Wash. — Seattle Humane is asking for help, amid its struggle to get the supplies it needs for its pet food bank.
"We look forward to serving as many people as possible because the need is very great right now," said Brandon Macz, with Seattle Humane.
But on Saturday, the community are the ones serving Seattle Humane's Pet Food Bank.
"Pets are family and the people who are coming here are doing so to protect their families and to keep their pets happy and healthy," said Macz.
This comes after the non-profit posted on Facebook Friday, saying it was critically low on food. So much so it had to close its walk-up hours this weekend - and the community responded.
"The response has been incredible,” said Macz. “We have been getting, loads and loads of Amazon packages, our hearts go out to the delivery drivers who have had to bring us hundreds and hundreds of pounds of food and cat litter and other supplies."
The donations allow the non-profit to continue to provide for its more than 2,000 clients and serve 82,000 meals a month. Each donation is essential because staff admit, donations can be hard to come by these days.
"(There's been) a decline in donations, whether its monetary or in-kind donations,” said Macz. “Like I said everybody is experiencing economic hardship right now, people are experiencing job losses, they're having to downsize."
That's why Seattle Humane is grateful for all the support its received from the community, they call the "Rescue Squad."
“It just lets us know that we're not alone, we have a rescue squad by our side," said Macz. "Your hearts so full to see all these people coming out, showing their support. Making that Costco run, loading up coming down here, saying a few words, being able to thank them in person."
Walk-up services at Seattle Humane will resume Feb. 29th.
