SEATTLE — As runners hit the streets on Sunday for the annual Seattle Marathon, there are several road closures drivers need to know about.

The Seattle Marathon Association hosts a full marathon (7 a.m. start time) and a half marathon (7:30 a.m. start time) on Sunday, Nov. 26.

Races start at Fifth Avenue and Harrison Street in front of the Museum of Pop Culture at Seattle Center with runners crossing the finish line inside Memorial Stadium (401 Fifth Avenue North).

Road closures begin early on Sunday, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).

  • Express Lanes on Interstate 5 are closed until 9:30 a.m.
  • Northbound state Route 99 is closed at Harrison Street to North 63rd Street from 6:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
  • Traffic holds on Montlake Boulevard at Northeast Pacific Street are scheduled from 6-7:10 a.m.
  • Westbound state Route 520 off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard is closed from 6:30-11 a.m.

The courses take runners through downtown Seattle, over the Ship Canal Bridge, around the University of Washington campus, through Gasworks Park and returning over the Aurora Bridge to end under the Space Needle. The full marathon route adds mileage by taking runners around Washington Park Arboretum, Green Lake and winding through several neighborhoods.
