Two Seattle police officers have been fired for shooting at a fleeing vehicle in the Eastlake neighborhood in October 2017.
The termination notices, released Monday, explain in great detail Interim Police Chief Carmen Best's decision to fire officers Kenneth Martin and Tabitha Sexton.
"Your failure to demonstrate any understanding about the way you responded to this situation, particularly by repeatedly firing at a vehicle while it drove away from you and others, leave me concerned that a similar incident could occur in the future," Best wrote.
A review in April found the two officers violated the Seattle Police Department's use of force policies.
The officers were investigating reports of suspicious activity possibly involving a weapon near Yale Avenue East and East Boston Street when the shooting occurred.
Body cam video showed the suspects attempt to ram the officers with a Subaru Impreza.
The officers fired dozens of time at the suspects, and the suspects fled the scene.
According to department policy, "firearms shall not be discharged at a moving vehicle unless a person in the vehicle is immediately threatening the officer...by means other than a vehicle."
Both officers have the opportunity to appeal their termination.
