Suspect shot, killed at Tukwila hotel during internet crime investigation

The shooting happened at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton. According to police, one officer was grazed by a bullet and was treated for minor injuries.

TUKWILA, Wash. — A suspect was shot and killed by police inside a Tukwila hotel Wednesday.

The shooting happened at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton near Southcenter Mall after 3 p.m. There is a large police presence at the hotel and guests are currently unable to check in.

According to the Seattle Police Department, officers were conducting an operation at the hotel as part of the department's Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce.

Two officers fired rounds at the suspect, who died at the scene.

One officer was grazed by a bullet and suffered a minor injury to their leg.

A hotel guest from Texas in the area for business told KING 5 he had to barricade himself in the hotel kitchen.

"I heard a loud pop, I assumed it might have been maintenance. Seconds later, another pop and after that, a rapid succession of gunfire," Erik Wehrmeister said. "I turned around and saw someone shooting downward into the floor, and that's when I made a run for the kitchen into the corridor and barricaded in one of the offices."

Wehrmeister called 911 and then realized officers were already there.

"There were plain clothes officers immediately afterward that I saw in the lobby," he said.

The Force Investigation Team is investigating the shooting.
