2 dead after high-speed crash in Seattle's Westlake neighborhood

A 23-year-old driver and 24-year-old passenger are dead after a high-speed crash early Friday morning.

SEATTLE — Two men in their 20s are dead after a high-speed crash in Seattle's Westlake neighborhood early Friday morning.

Seattle police were called to the intersection of 4th Avenue and Pine Street just before 1 a.m. for a crash involving two cars and a utility pole.

The driver of a black SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound along Pine Street and ran a red light at 4th Avenue. The SUV collided with a white sedan, and then ran into the street pole, according to the Seattle Police Department. Police are still investigating to see exactly how fast that driver was going when the collision occurred.

Police said the SUV was "wrapped around" the utility pole. The driver and the passenger were declared dead at the scene. The driver was a 23-year-old man and the passenger was 24. The driver and the passenger in the white sedan were uninjured.

Streets around Pine Street and 4th Avenue were closed while police investigated.
