Family mourns woman killed in Metro bus crash in Seattle

Amanda Schneider is the 28-year-old woman who was hit and killed by a bus on Saturday.

SEATTLE — The King County Medical Examiner's Office has identified Amanda Schneider, 28, as the woman who was hit and killed by a bus in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood Nov. 4.

According to authorities, Schneider was standing near the intersection of 5th Avenue and Battery Street. In a release, the Seattle Police Department (SPD) said a man driving a red Saturn crashed into the bus, which caused the bus driver to lose control, sending the bus crashing into a building. That's how Schneider ended up getting hit.

As of Wednesday morning, the man driving that car was still in the hospital. Once released, he will be arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide.  SPD believes he was on drugs at the time of the crash because of evidence they found in the car.

Family and friends are mourning the loss of Schneider. Eileen Taylor, Schneider's mom, said it still doesn't feel real. She's lost her only daughter. They cleaned out Schneider's apartment Tuesday, which is only a few blocks from where she was killed.

Taylor said the world has lost someone special. Her daughter was studying psychology because she wanted to help people. She was already helping people as a trainer at the Washington Athletic Club.

Its CEO, Chuck Nelson, released the following statement about Schneider's passing:

"Amanda’s passing in this tragic accident has deeply impacted many around the Club and brought immense sadness to the WAC community. Amanda positively influenced our lives through her passion for fitness and well-being. Her infectious smile and warm personality leave WAC team members and members with countless wonderful memories. We grieve with Amanda’s family and friends as we remember a wonderful woman and extraordinary member of the WAC team."

Taylor plans to share more about her daughter once she's had time to process this loss.
