SEATTLE — Dogs are still missing after a fire tore through a doggy daycare in Seattle’s SODO neighborhood on Monday.
Now, owners of these dogs are sounding off as they continue to look for their pets.
"I don't know if I'll ever get a dog. When you give it to someone and they kill it. And they're supposed to be taking care of it,” said Allison Scarborough.
Scarborough is trying to piece together what happened to her two beloved dogs, Georgie and Remi, after a fire ripped through the top floor of The Dog Resort.
"She was my soul sister. She was like the perfect dog. I can't imagine ever having another dog so perfect,” said Scarborough. “I love Remi but I actually got Remi for Georgie, she's my mom's soul sister.”
Scarborough is on a trip in Japan, so she boarded her two dogs. She never expected getting a call from the Washington State Department of Transportation giving her news about Georgie, who ran from the fire and ended up on Interstate 5.
Scarborough couldn't understand how her dog ended up on the side of I-5 when Georgie was supposed to be cared for.
Remi is still missing.
Another owner said her dog is unaccounted for as well.
Seattle police officers helped corral several loose dogs. The ones that weren't picked up by their owners Monday night were taken to the Downtown Dog Lounge in South Lake Union.
"They didn't learn any lessons from the first fire when evacuating," said Scarborough.
Back in February there was a fire at The Dog Resort, owned by the same company, in Lake City. More than 100 dogs were in danger when a faulty drier sparked the fire. All the dogs were recovered, and all of them survived during that incident.
That's not the case this time around.
"I don't understand why,” said Scarborough. “You've had this happen before and it happened again. I don't understand why, like why, and you are so unresponsive."
The Seattle Fire Department doesn't know what caused this fire.
KING 5 reached out to the owner of the dog resort multiple times on Tuesday for comment, but did not hear back by Tuesday evening.
