SEATTLE -- A day after a fatal hit and run on Seattle's First Hill, police have identified the driver of the truck responsible for hitting a woman and dragging her a block down the street before leaving the scene.
The King County Medical Examiner identified the victim as 42 year-old Rebecca Scollard.
Police used surveillance video to find the truck and the driver and it led them to a waste collection company called Recology Cleanscapes.
On Friday, a company spokesperson acknowledged one of its trucks was involved in the fatal hit and run accident.
The driver is cooperating with police, but he's not under arrest. Police say despite the fact that the truck dragged the woman for a full block down the street, several factors may have kept the person behind the wheel from realizing what had happened.
It was a very large commercial truck, which would lead to the possibility that the driver may not have known, given the blinds spots and the sheer mass of the truck, said Drew Fowler, Seattle Police Department.
KING 5 cameras spotted at least two Cleanscapes truck driving through the area of the accident Thursday evening.
Recology Cleanscapes released a statement Friday stating safety is its top priority. But the Department of Labor and Industries says it has cited Cleanscapes with multiple violations since 2011.
Cleanscapes declined an interview, saying it can't comment on an ongoing investigation.
