SEATTLE -- Their lead pastor and founder of their church resigned this week, but on Sunday several current members voiced their support for the now former Pastor Mark Driscoll. The group believes that the voices of a few disgruntled former members took down Pastor Driscoll and that the majority of people wholeheartedly support him.
Driscoll came under fire for what some former members called his controlling and abusive behavior. Some former members also say that he improperly used church funds.
The group of current members is writing a book that they will soon send to Pastor Mark. They didn't include names of the authors, but they sent KING 5 several excerpts on Sunday night:
"We LOVE YOU & know that Jesus has you and your family, firmly in his hand and personally pray that you come back to boldly preaching and teaching the Bible to the Glory of God." – Mars Hill member in Spokane
"Thanks to the lessons God taught me through you, my husband and children are blessed. I know we aren't the only ones and I pray that you are overwhelmed with love from those you have touched." – Mars Hill Member in Montana
"Please know how much you are all appreciated not just for the many ways you've served Mars Hill Church the past 18 years, but for being bold, loving, caring, and gracious. Thank you for persevering through all the rough times in the past. And in this season of super rough, please know that I care, and I hope and pray that our gracious, loving, merciful Father God will bless you with his comfort, strength, and peace." – Mars Hill member in Idaho
The group doesn't know if Mark Driscoll will ever return to Mars Hill or if he will open another church, but they say they pray for the best for him and his family.
