SEATTLE — As temperatures climb, people across the sound are going shopping for fans and air conditioning units to get some relief.
"I would say one out of every four people coming into the store is looking for a way to cool down this summer," said Tim Clark, Ace Hardware assistant manager.
Fans have been the hot sellers at the store located in Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood.
"There are a number of different fans that range from anywhere from the $20 range all the way to about $150 you can get some of the really big movers that you can put up in your attic and that's really effective," Clark said.
Clark said the beginning of July is one of the busiest times of the year. He said people are buying products for their summer projects and customers looking for ways to beat the heat.
"I had no fans,” Rick Krejci said. “And I didn't want to leave the windows open because it was just letting more hot air in. So that's why I'm here for some air conditioning."
Krejci is one of those folks, trying to find some relief.
"I ended up seeing this thing, this Artic Air thing, I think I'm going to buy this," Krejci said.
Although fans are blowing off the shelves. Clark said portable air conditioning units are a hot commodity.
"We get a number of calls throughout the city because they're hard to find, and they're getting harder to find,” Clark said. “And people seem to wait until the last minute."
The Magnolia location does not sell any air conditioning units in-store. But Clark said people can find them online or at big box stores.
"If you're looking for a unit that you can buy and install yourself, we're talking anywhere from a few hundred dollars, up to a few thousand dollars and they'll have different features on them," Clark said.
For those looking to get central air conditioning installed, KING 5 discovered most HVAC businesses in town have an estimated range between $7,000 to $13,000.
Clark just hopes people stay safe as the summer heat continues.
"Keep cool, keep your blood cool, drink plenty of water, stay hydrated," Clark said. "And get a fan. Get a fan and cool off."
