These are Seattle's new street parking rates

The city aims to have one to two open parking spaces on a block at any given time.

SEATTLE — The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) adjusted street parking rates on Monday.

Under the new rates, about half of paid parking zones remain the same price. Several zones are decreasing in price by 50 cents an hour, and the rest are increasing by 50 cents per hour.

SDOT regularly adjusts parking rates to be more expensive in areas where it’s challenging to find a parking spot and lowers them in areas where it’s easier to find a spot. The agency said it aims to have one to two parking spaces available on a given block at any time.

With the new rates in effect, the priciest parking zones in the city are in Fremont and Pike-Pine, where it now costs $6 per hour to park in the afternoon and evening. Both zones saw prices increase 50 cents from the spring.

On the flip side, the least expensive parking rate is $1 per hour in zones including Westlake Avenue North, the north end of South Lake Union, Cherry Hill and the Ballard Locks.

Morning rates tend to be less expensive than afternoon rates.

Paid parking is in effect Monday through Saturday and is generally limited to two, four or 10 hours. Parking is free on Sundays.

The agency is expected to update rates again in the fall.
