SEATTLE — Seattle is among the five healthiest major cities in the United States, according to a new analysis from Forbes Advisor.

The outlet determined that Seattle is the third-healthiest city in the U.S., coming in behind Austin and San Jose respectively.

Forbes analyzed the 46 most populated cities in the country across eight categories: rate of heart disease deaths, rate of opioid overdoses, diabetes rate, high blood pressure rate, binge drinking rate, obesity rate, smoking rate and rate of adults who report physical inactivity.

Seattle had the lowest percentage of diabetes, lowest rate of adults who reported smoking, and lowest rate of people who reported physical inactivity among the cities studied. Seattle also had the second-lowest rate of adults with high blood pressure.

Also coming in the top five healthiest cities were San Diego and Denver.

On the other end of the spectrum, Detroit is ranked as the least healthy major city in the country. It had the highest rate in five of the eight categories and also had the second-highest rate of heart disease deaths and opioid overdose deaths.

Milwaukee, Memphis, Philadelphia and Tulsa rounded out the five least-healthy cities.
