SEATTLE — The Seattle Aquarium announced its new Ocean Pavilion expansion is opening on Aug. 29.
The expansion is bringing the biodiversity of the Coral Triangle, a marine area located in the western Pacific Ocean to Seattle.
According to the aquarium, visitors will be able to come face to face with 3,500 animals and plants, including sharks, rays, bowmouth guitarfish, schooling fish, seahorses, mangroves, nearly 30 species of coral and more. The exhibit will also tell the story of the planet's ocean.
“It’s incredible to see this vision brought to life after more than two decades in the making,” Bob Davidson, President and CEO of the Seattle Aquarium, said. “We wouldn’t be able to celebrate such a historic occasion without the dedication and tireless work of thousands of people throughout the years, helping take the new Ocean Pavilion from vision to reality.
People can begin purchasing tickets now on the Seattle Aquarium's website.
The Ocean Pavilion is the first project to be completed as part of the Seattle waterfront renovation. This fall, the rooftop of the building will connect to the city's pedestrian bridge.
