Damaged pole was the cause of widespread outage in Seattle's Central District

There were initially more than 10,000 City Light customers without power Friday afternoon.

SEATTLE — A damaged pole resulted in a widespread power outage that impacted Seattle's Central District and surrounding areas Friday afternoon.

Around of 4 p.m., approximately 10,500 customers were without power in the Central District and south in the Mount Baker and Beacon Hill neighborhoods. 

That number was down to just below 10,000 less than 30 minutes later and around 7,300 a little after 5 p.m.

Power was restored to most customers by 6 p.m.

What caused the pole to be damaged is currently unknown.

During an outage, drivers are asked to treat intersections with dark signals as all-way stops.
