SEATTLE — Seattle police Assistant Chief Tyrone Davis has returned to duty, Friday, May 31, effective immediately, the department confirmed.
The move came a week after the Seattle Police Department (SPD) confirmed to KING 5 that Davis had been placed on leave. SPD did not specify a reason and forwarded any questions to the city's Office of Police Accountability.
At the time KING 5 reported he was on leave, the Office of Police Accountability confirmed it received a complaint and a preliminary investigation had begun. Once the background information has been gathered, the OPA director will review the file and the case will be classified. According to OPA, during classification the director determines whether the alleged misconduct should be addressed by the employee's supervisor or whether an investigation will be conducted. The process takes up to 30 days.
Davis joined the Seattle Police Department in 1999 and began his career at the East Precinct. He was promoted to sergeant in 2014 and was an investigator with the Office of Police Accountability.
Davis made lieutenant in 2021 and became assistant chief of the Special Operations Bureau in 2023.
In the week since Davis' leave was announced, Chief Adrian Diaz has left his position and Sue Rahr, former King County Sheriff, was announced as interim chief.
