No suspects in custody after string of armed robberies in south Seattle

Police found an abandoned vehicle they later learned was stolen.

SEATTLE — Police are searching for a group of people suspected of a string of armed robberies in south Seattle that occurred early Friday morning.

The suspects wore face masks and robbed convenience stores and gas stations around Georgetown, Rainier Valley, High Point and West Seattle neighborhoods, according to Seattle police. During each robbery, they displayed weapons and, in some incidents, demanded money.

No injuries were reported during the robberies, which also involved stolen merchandise.

Pawan Deep Singh owns a Shell station in Georgetown. He says his employees are rattled but uninjured after three people with masks and armed with a rifle entered the store early Friday morning.

“We had locked door but it’s in the morning, it’s a busy time in the morning. So 5:30 it’s the daytime almost, it’s unbelievable – a lot of customers in the pumps and all over they just come and go,” Singh said.

“Yeah, we have to survive. We have family we have to give them food, it’s not easy,” he continued.

Police later found a blue Kia sedan they believe was connected to the robberies at 16th Avenue South and East Marginal Way South. A witness told police the vehicle was driving erratically before hitting a curb. The vehicle was stolen, according to police.

The robberies occurred at:

  • 5:25 a.m., in the 7200 block of East Marginal Way South
  • 5:37 a.m., in the 2800 block of Rainier Avenue South
  • 6:40 a.m., in the 7500 block of 35th Avenue Southwest
  • 6:50 a.m., in the 4500 block of Fauntleroy Way

The police department's Robbery Unit detectives are leading the investigation.
