SPD officers violated force policy in Eastlake shooting, report says

Two Seattle Police officers fired dozens of shots at suspects in the Eastlake neighborhood in October.

A review found two Seattle Police officers violated the department's use of force policies in an October shooting in the Eastlake neighborhood.

The Seattle Times reported the Office of Police Accountability sent a review to Interim Police Chief Carmen Best who will have the final word.

The King County Prosecutor’s Office tentatively declined to bring criminal charges against the officers in October.

The officers were investigating reports of suspicious activity possibly involving a weapon near Yale Avenue East and East Boston Street when the shooting occurred.

Body cam video showed the suspects attempt to ram the officers with a Subaru Impreza.

The officers fired dozens of times at the suspects, and the suspects fled the scene.

According to department policy, "firearms shall not be discharged at a moving vehicle unless a person in the vehicle is immediately threatening the officer...by means other than a vehicle."
