SEATTLE — Trader Joe's filed permits needed to open a new location in Seattle's Greenwood neighborhood, according to city records.

The new store would be located at 8704 Greenwood Ave. N, under the newly redeveloped Hemlock apartment building.

The Hemlock was redeveloped from 2020 to 2023 from a single grocery store building into a mixed-use apartment complex. The building was redeveloped to include a 12,000-square-foot space for a grocery store.

A Safeway that used to be located at the address was sold in May 2018 and closed in June 2018. The company closed the location because it said it wasn't profitable.

Trader Joe's has five other locations around Seattle and one location in Shoreline.

Trader Joe's has not yet responded to a request for comment. No opening date has been announced.
